Los Angeles saw a 103 percent increase in residential and commercial construction projects in January.

Construction activity blossomed in Los Angeles during January as the value of projects initiated by developers more than doubled from a year earlier, the city said Friday.  Last month developers pulled permits for projects valued at $335 million, a 103 percent increase from the $165 million in January 2012, said the city’s Building and Safety Department.  The permits are for both residential and commercial projects.  It reflects a trend taking hold in the overall economy, said Bud Ovrom, the department’s general manager.  ”It think it’s a slow but steady recovery of the economy and I think slow and steady is probably better and more sustainable for us than (more…)
